Amber is fossilised tree resin found worldwide, often with insect and plant inclusions.
It is generally thought that the volatile components leave the resin over time
and as polymerization proceeds, the copal resin becomes Amber.

Hydrocarbons in the blue amber shift the sun's ultraviolet light down in frequency,
resulting in the glow of blue amber.
